The Learning Academy of College Park: Hidden Gem of Preschools

The growth and development a child undergoes in the first five years of life are unrivaled as a time of learning and change. For parents, teachers and caregivers, understanding these changes is vital to the creation of a nurturing environment where young children will thrive in every way.

At The Learning Academy of College Park, little ones blossom in an atmosphere of caring. Days start with a warm welcome for each child, providing a gentle transition from home to school. Families and their children from infancy to pre-kindergarten are served by TLACP. A low teacher-student ratio in every class ensures individualized attention for each child and is below state mandates.

At the heart of our preschool is a <curriculum which fosters and supports the physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual development and growth of the young child. This approach to early childhood education, known as The Creative Curriculum®, is the leading scientifically based, comprehensive program of study children from birth to five years. The Creative Curriculum® helps plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program that promotes social-emotional development and learning in the core areas of literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies.

TLACP exemplifies the top tier of early childhood care and education available in metro Atlanta’s southside. The center is led by director Ricci Lewis-Johnson, who holds a master of education in early childhood education and a bachelor’s degree in child and family development. Significantly, Ricci’s career in the field of early childhood education and development spans more than 15 years.

TLACP is not run by a corporation or similar contract operations but is an extension of the Christian education outreach of the College Park 1st United Methodist Church. The center supports the belief that curriculum should be integrated with high-quality assessment, professional development, and family resources to create a well-rounded program addressing the needs of young children, their families and early childhood education professionals.

Although the 2016-17 school year has begun, TLACP has a limited number of openings. Our center hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm. Information is available at the center’s office, 404-766-9252.
